TSClientX

I often need to manage remote Windows servers using RDP, so I downloaded the official Microsoft RDP client; what a disappointment! The pipe key doesn’t work, neither does the clipboard, and the connection options are pretty limited.

Moreover, it seems that you can only have one active connection at time (I haven’t managed to create two or more).

I use the wonderful TSClient in Ubuntu, so I wondered immediately if it is available on OS X using DarwinPorts or fink.

During my search, I found a little gem called TSClientX, which is essentially a fully functional port of TSClient, very easy to setup; the only base requirement is to have X11 installed on the system (you can find it in the OS X installation CD):

I highly recommend it for the following features:

  • Supports RDP, RDPv5, VNC and XDMCP.
  • Full screen mode and SeamlessRDP support.
  • Not a single keyboard issue on the remote host using default settings.
  • Supports remote audio redirection (I doubt anyone ever uses this, but it could be useful nonetheless).
  • Offers all the standard RDP options for optimizing the connection speed

Is it possible to copy-and-paste between Mac OS X and a remote desktop connection? I have tryied with command-v, control-v, 3rd mouse button, control-y and nothing works.

The 3rd mouse button works OK in the X shell.

OS X clipboard seems not to be supported; I recently started to use Cocoa Remote Desktop alpha builds which should include clipboard support very soon, you may check it out.
